MAYSVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY

There are many ways that you can help support your public library!
BECOME A LIBRARY VOLUNTEER
Volunteers help in many ways by supporting staff for children's and adult programming, planning and organizing fundraisers & events, and helping out with various tasks around the library.
TEEN VOLUNTEERS
Teen volunteers may begin volunteering as early as the summer after their 6th grade year. It is customary to "break in" new volunteers by having them help with the Summer Reading Program. "SRP" volunteers may help with creating and performing in story times, working with children on arts and crafts projects, learning to assist patrons at the circulation desk, shelving, and basic library skills.
Teen volunteers have been rewarded in the past for their efforts with pool parties, library lock-ins, Library pins or "dog-tags", but mostly by a sense of satisfaction in a job well done and a summer well spent.
CREATE A FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY
Friends of the Library is an organization similar to your local Band Boosters or Athletics Boosters. The Friends organize fundraising events and volunteerism and work with the Friends of The Library In Oklahoma to charter their club and obtain a 501c3 federal income tax filing status that would help the library to apply for more grant funding in both the federal and private sector. At least 5 members would be needed to form this group. Please contact the library if you would like to help build this organization.
PLANNING COMMITTEES
Volunteer to help in planning our annual WILEY POST FESTIVAL and WILEY POST STORY RIDE TO READ, our library's biggest and most successful fundraisers and a highlight of the community calendar.
SPONSORSHIP OF EVENTS
Sponsor library activities, such as the Summer Reading Program, Wiley Post Festival, etc...by donating materials or money to be used as reading incentives or prizes. Sponsors are always recognized in our marketing and press releases.
DONATIONS
Our library always welcomes books for donations. Please review our policy on gifts on this website. We only ask that you DO NOT give us Reader's Digest Condensed books. No one checks them out if they are on the shelves and no one buys them in the book sale.
We also accept other items for donation that may complement our collection such as memorabilia, artwork, furnishings, technology, etc. Please contact the library prior to your donation to ensure that we have room for it.
BOOKS IN MEMORY
In lieu of flowers, many people have requested that a book be purchased for the library to memorialize their loved one. A patron may make a donation specifically for this purpose with the option of choosing the book themselves, or allowing the librarian to make a tasteful and appropriate choice. Each book purchased in this matter receives a memorial book plate inserted on the front cover of the book and the family of the loved one is sent a card notifying them of the donation. If at any time in the future this book is culled from the collection, that book is sent to a family member.
PLANNED GIVING
Many libraries today are working with patrons who would like to make a substantial gift to their community library through investments and/or remembering the library in their estate planning. It is recommended, should you decide to explore this option, that you take time to visit the librarian and discuss future library needs and projects and perhaps make suggestions as to how you'd like to see your gift used. Then speak with your estate planner to ensure your wishes are followed.
