FAQ's (frequently asked questions)

How Can I get a library card?

In an attempt to be ecologically responsible, the Maysville Public Library no longer issues library cards.  Instead, we issue library account numbers to each patron which we store on our circulation computers.  The good news is that you need not memorize this number as we can access your account with your name and any form of ID, such as a driver's license.

Patrons  under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian visit the library to fill out their library card application and review our circulation policies (Click HERE for our Library Letter to Parents).  At this time the parent or guardian has the option to whether or not to allow their child internet access at our library's public access internet stations. Without this approval noted on the application and in the under aged patron's account, they will not be allowed internet access at the library.  Patrons 18 and over need simply to reside or work in the Maysville area and be able to provide verified contact information to receive a library account.

How many books can I check out and how long can I keep them?

Patrons may check out up to 10 items at a time and may keep books out for three weeks.  If you are checking out VHS tapes or CD's you are limited to two at a time and may only keep them for one week.  Please be advised that overdue fees are 5 cents per book per day, and 1 dollar per day for VHS and CD's that are over due.  A book drop is provided at the front of the library for your convenience to return books after hours.

How do I find a book at the library?

While our library staff is always happy to assist you in finding the items you need in our collection, patrons are welcome to use our automated electronic card catalog program (ATHENA) that is loaded onto each of our public access computer workstations.  A quick tutorial will help familiarize you with this program that searches by title, author, subject, and ISBN number.

If you prefer to "dig around" in the shelves your selves, our library organizes our non fiction titles using the classic Dewey decimal system.

If you can not locate the title you need, we are happy to order your book for you through Oklahoma Department of Libraries Inter Library Loan (ILL) service.  This service us allows us to borrow books as they are available from other Oklahoma libraries, however, due to budget constraints, we must charge the requesting patron for the postage expense of returning the book to it's home library after circulation to the requesting patron.

How can I get internet access at home?

Our library is provided internet service by WILNET Communications of Ada, OK.  Wilnet is a family owned internet service provider that has installed a local internet server unit in the Maysville Public Library to provide you affordable, local access to the internet.  Contact the library during regular business hours to get more information on WILNET fees for home service and registration requirements.  WILNET application and setup process is quick and easy and provides unlimited monthly access.
